Congress MP Rakibul Hussain Attacked in Assam’s Nagaon District

Dhubri, Assam: Congress MP Rakibul Hussain and his PSOs were attacked by unidentified men in Rupohihat, Nagaon. The attack happened while he was heading to a public meeting.
Hussain, aware of security risks, traveled by scooter. A group of 15-20 people tried to stop him. A viral video shows them attacking his PSOs and hitting him with a cricket bat.
“We had all permissions. Due to past attacks, we informed the police and chose scooters,” Hussain said.
This was the fourth attack on him in a year. “They damaged our scooters and tried to kill me. My safety is at risk,” he added.
Assam Congress chief Bhupen Borah condemned the attack, blaming CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s government for poor security. “Despite previous attacks, he had no proper protection. The CM must act,” Borah said.
CM Sarma assured a probe. “One of Hussain’s PSOs fired four blank rounds to disperse the mob. His security will be strengthened,” he stated.
Assam DGP Harmeet Singh confirmed two PSOs suffered minor injuries. He assured the culprits would be caught soon.
Hussain, a five-term MLA and ex-minister, won Dhubri Lok Sabha seat last year by over 10 lakh votes. His son, Tanzil Hussain, lost Samaguri bypolls to BJP’s Diplu Ranjan Sarma.
