Hyderabad: BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) accused the Congress government in Telangana of neglecting minorities and failing to implement promises from its Minority Declaration.
Speaking at an Iftar dinner at Telangana Bhavan, KTR contrasted the previous BRS administration under K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) with the current government.
“Under KCR, we upheld religious harmony, supported all festivals, and promoted the Ganga-Jamuna Tehzeeb culture to foster peace in society,” he said.
He highlighted initiatives like residential schools and an overseas education scheme for minority students, alleging that Congress had scrapped these programmes.
KTR also criticised the lack of minority representation in the Congress-led cabinet, calling it unprecedented. He demanded immediate implementation of the Minority Declaration, including strengthening the Minority Corporation, warning that BRS would continue pressuring the government until promises were met. The party, he announced, would soon launch protests over these issues.
Meanwhile, BRS MLC K. Kavitha, speaking at an Iftar event in Banswada, condemned the proposed amendments to the Wakf Act and accused Congress of failing to protect minority welfare. She pointed to rising communal tensions under Congress rule, claiming that during KCR’s tenure, there were no religious riots, whereas now they occur monthly. She criticised the government for not addressing incidents like the three-month internet shutdown in Jainoor and the demolition of Hindu and Muslim homes without compensation.
Kavitha also slammed Congress for failing to utilise even 25% of the minority welfare budget, cancelling Ramadan gift distributions, and discontinuing self-employment schemes for Muslim youth and women. She further accused the government of failing to fulfil its Shaadi Mubarak scheme promises, stating that despite pledges of ₹1.60 lakh and 10 grams of gold, no beneficiaries had received them in 15 months.
