Mysore, August 9: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the Congress party has opposed the central government’s plan to change the Waqf Act.
Speaking at Mysore airport, he said the Congress party believes in the Constitution and is against this move.
Siddaramaiah criticized the BJP, saying they are against minorities and do not support secularism or social justice. He called the BJP a communal party and said their actions, like the Prohibition of Conversion Act and changes to cow slaughter laws, are unconstitutional.
He stressed that the Waqf Act is specific to the community and should not be changed.
The Central Government has introduced a bill in the lower house of the Parliament which intends to carryout 40 amendments to the Waqf Act, that apprehended to change the entire nature of the Act and will defeat the very purpose of the philanthropists donate properties for charitable and religious purpose of the community.
