Congress President Challenges PM Modi’s Targeting of Muslims in Election Discourse

1 May 2024: At a recent election rally in Chhattisgarh’s Janjgir-Champa district, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his repeated targeting of Muslims in campaign speeches. Kharge’s remarks came in response to PM Modi’s allegations that the Congress party plans to redistribute wealth among Muslims if elected.

During his speech, Kharge questioned the rationale behind PM Modi’s focus solely on Muslims, stating, “Why target Muslims only? I also have 5 children.” He accused the Prime Minister of using divisive rhetoric to distract voters from more pressing issues and sow discord among communities.

Kharge urged voters to see through the political manipulation and focus on building a united nation. He emphasized the importance of inclusive development and called for unity among citizens regardless of religious or cultural background.

The Congress president’s critique adds to the ongoing political debate surrounding communal harmony and electoral discourse. The Congress has also lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India regarding PM Modi’s comments, further intensifying the electoral atmosphere.

With the Lok Sabha Elections underway and the nation eagerly awaiting the results, Kharge’s remarks highlight the significance of responsible and inclusive political rhetoric in shaping the future of the country.
