Court in Nuh Denies Bail to Hindutva Group Accused of Attacking Madrasa Leader

Nuh: A district court in Nuh, Haryana, has rejected the bail pleas of members of a Hindutva group accused of attacking and kidnapping a madrasa staff member, sending out a strong signal against rising hate crimes targeting Muslims.

The incident took place a few weeks ago when Mehbub, the in-charge of a local madrasa, was assaulted by a group of men armed with sticks and rods. According to his complaint, the attackers struck him twice—first in a verbal altercation, and later returning with weapons and vehicles before kidnapping him.

The dispute reportedly stemmed from the closure of the madrasa’s main gate during class hours. Despite repeated explanations from Mehbub, the attackers continued their assault.

Police arrested the accused based on Mehbub’s complaint. However, their bail application was dismissed by the court. In its ruling, the judge remarked, “The court has a bigger responsibility. It cannot be a mute spectator when hate crimes are brought to its attention. There is no justification for granting bail in this case.”

Talha, the lawyer representing Mehbub, welcomed the verdict, calling it a “small victory for justice” amid increasing incidents of violence against Muslims. He emphasized that the FIR clearly documented the use of weapons and vehicles in the assault.

Local residents, activists, and Mehbub’s family also expressed satisfaction with the decision, stating that such rulings restore their faith in the judicial system and provide hope in the face of targeted attacks.
