Cyber Crime Awareness Programme Held at AMU College of Nursing

Aligarh: The College of Nursing, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), in collaboration with the Cyber Crime Unit, Aligarh and the NGO Ummeed Welfare Foundation, organised a cyber crime awareness programme under the Jagriti Mission initiative for its students. The event was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Farha Azmi, Principal, College of Nursing, and Co-curricular Incharge Shivani A. Masih.

Mrs. Mehvish Masih, General Tutor, College of Nursing welcomed the guests and highlighted the objective of the programme.

Ms Kusum Lata from the Cyber Crime Unit, spoke extensively on the rising threats of financial fraud and social media crimes. She emphasised the importance of privacy settings on social media platforms, the dangers of cyberbullying, and the need for parents to monitor children’s online activities.

Vipin Kumar Pal, Head Constable, Cyber Crime Unit, elaborated on various forms of cyber crimes, including financial fraud, digital arrest scams, and trademark-related crimes. He also discussed preventive measures and strategies for reporting and responding to such incidents.

Prof. Farha Azmi highlighted the dual impact of technology, stating that while it has made life easier, it also brings vulnerabilities. She called for collective action to combat cyber threats through awareness and responsible usage of digital tools.

Dr. Madhu Upadhyay commended the College of Nursing for organising the event and underlined the need for preventive strategies against cyber threats. The Deputy Medical Superintendent of JN Medical College Hospital Dr. Mohammad Saquib also shared insights on the growing concern of cyber crime in the medical and academic sectors.

The guest of honour, Mrs. Mamta Kureel (Superintendent of Police, Cyber Crime) shared real-life case studies of cyber crime victims and spoke about a recently launched book aimed at spreading awareness on various forms of cyber crime, including online fraud and elopement cases.

In his concluding remarks, the chief guest, Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Principal, JN Medical College, AMU, Prof. Mohammad Habib Raza urged all to act responsibly in the digital age, stating that technology can be both a powerful tool and a potential threat. He stressed the importance of vigilance and digital literacy in protecting oneself from cyber crime.

The programme was attended by faculty members of the College of Nursing, officials from the Cyber Crime Unit, and representatives of the Ummeed Welfare Foundation, including Mr. Nadeem Anjum, Dr. Anshuman, Dr. Madhu Upadhyay, and Dr. Mohd Shakib.
