Ghaziabad: A video showing a Muslim man being assaulted and publicly humiliated by Hindutva leader Daksh Chaudhary has triggered debate over vigilante violence and the growing trend of individuals taking law enforcement into their own hands.
The incident came to light after Hindu Raksha Dal, an organisation affiliated with Chaudhary, shared footage on social media on June 8. The group claimed the action was punishment for a Muslim man who had allegedly made derogatory remarks about Hindu women and issued threats against Hindus in a video.
According to the footage circulated online, the man was physically assaulted by Chaudhary and his associates. The video also showed his face being blackened before he was made to apologise on camera and promise not to repeat the alleged remarks.
The organisation described the assault as a form of “treatment” and openly shared the recording on social media platforms. The footage quickly gained attention and generated strong reactions from users.
Daksh Chaudhary, also known as Akku Pandit, has a large online following and frequently posts content related to so-called “love jihad” campaigns. He often presents himself as a “gau rakshak” and shares videos involving confrontations with Muslim men.
The viral video drew criticism from many social media users, who argued that no individual or group has the authority to punish someone outside the legal system. Others supported the action and viewed it as a response to offensive remarks.
When approached regarding the incident, Ghaziabad police reportedly stated that they were unaware of the video and the alleged assault.
The episode has renewed concerns about vigilante groups using public humiliation and violence in response to allegations, raising questions about accountability and adherence to legal processes.
