Dalit Families Allege Attacks by Rajput Group During Diwali, Women Fear for Safety

Sagar: Dalit families in Kesli village of Sagar district, Madhya Pradesh, have accused members of the Rajput community of attacking them during Diwali celebrations. The conflict reportedly began when Dalit children were bursting firecrackers, which angered a Rajput family in the area.

According to complaints submitted to the Superintendent of Police, the attackers entered Dalit homes, beat family members, and harassed women. Several women have alleged molestation and threats. One of them, Pinki Ahirwar, appeared in a video that has gone viral, appealing directly to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav for protection. She questioned where Dalit women should hide for safety, saying, “They are entering our homes and violating our honour. Ladli Behnas are not safe here.”

Police officials confirmed that written complaints were received from members of the Dalit community. The local police have been directed to investigate the incident. Authorities said statements are being recorded and evidence collected.

This attack follows another disturbing case in Gwalior, where a Dalit man named Sonu Barua was allegedly kidnapped, beaten, and forced to drink urine by three men. The accused were arrested after the victim filed a complaint.

The repeated instances of caste-based violence in Madhya Pradesh have raised concerns about law enforcement’s response and the safety of Dalit communities. Local activists have called for stronger legal action and monitoring in rural areas to prevent further atrocities.
