Dalit Family Home Set Ablaze Amid Caste Clash in Tamil Nadu Village, 14 Arrested

A violent altercation between members of the Mutharaiyar and Scheduled Caste communities in Vadakadu village, Tamil Nadu, resulted in property damage and the torching of a Dalit family’s home on Monday, reported the Hindu.
The conflict reportedly began when intoxicated youths from both communities clashed at a fuel station over queue disputes. The verbal altercation soon escalated into a physical confrontation, with some individuals following each other back to their homes. In the ensuing chaos, miscreants set fire to the hut of S. Mallika, a Scheduled Caste woman, and destroyed a vehicle parked nearby. Additionally, windows of a government bus were smashed during the unrest.
Footage of the violence circulated rapidly on social media, sparking public outrage. Following the incident, local police detained 14 individuals from both communities and launched a full-scale investigation. Injured persons were taken to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
Authorities have appealed to the public to refrain from spreading misinformation online, warning that false narratives could further inflame tensions in the region.
