Dalit Woman Assaulted, Tied to Tree Over Fish Theft Allegation in Udupi

Udupi – A Dalit woman in Karnataka’s Udupi district was assaulted and tied to a tree after being accused of stealing fish at Malpe port. Four people have been arrested.
The accused are Lakshmibai, Sundar, Shilpa, and another resident. The incident, on March 18, was caught on video and went viral, sparking outrage.
The video shows a woman hitting the victim on the head at a fish stall. Later, she was tied to a tree while a male suspect abused and struck her.
ASP Dr. K. Aran said, “We acted immediately and arrested four suspects. A thorough probe is underway to ensure justice.”
Activists and political leaders condemned the attack, demanding strict action against caste-based violence. Authorities assured accountability and urged the public to report such crimes.
