Amroha: Tension has gripped Musallepur village in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district after a Dalit youth was brutally attacked with a sword for objecting to liquor drinking outside his home.
The incident occurred on August 17 when Shivam Singh confronted a group of men led by Siddhant Devra who were consuming alcohol near his house. The accused allegedly called in more associates, assaulted Shivam and his father, and attacked Shivam with a sword, severing a vein in his hand.
Shivam, who works with his father as a scrap dealer, was admitted to a private hospital in Meerut for 15 days. Doctors have informed the family that the damaged vein will no longer function, leaving his hand permanently impaired. The family has already spent lakhs of rupees on medical expenses. Their house, located by the roadside outside the main village habitation, made them vulnerable to such confrontations.
The case has sparked outrage after Azad Samaj Party chief Chandrashekhar Azad highlighted the matter on social media. He demanded the immediate arrest of the accused and warned that if prompt action is not taken, his party will launch a mass agitation against the state government.
The incident has once again brought attention to recurring caste-based violence in rural Uttar Pradesh. Residents of Musallepur and rights activists are pressing for strict legal action, compensation for the victim’s family, and measures to prevent similar attacks.
