Deepfake Video of Indian Army Colonel Sofia Qureshi Goes Viral, Misrepresents Her Statement

A deepfake video featuring Indian Army Colonel Sofia Qureshi has gone viral on social media, falsely showing her saying, “I am a Muslim but not a terrorist. Terrorism has no religion.” The viral clip, claimed to be from a recent press conference, is in fact fabricated using artificial intelligence.
Newschecker conducted a reverse image search of frames from the viral video and found that the visuals were originally from a press conference held by Col. Qureshi on May 7, 2025, after Operation Sindoor — India’s counter-terror campaign against nine terror camps in Pakistan following the Pahalgam Attack.
Nowhere in the original footage did Col. Qureshi mention her religion. She focused entirely on military operations and national security matters.
Further analysis of the viral video’s audio through resemble.ai and UB Media Forensics Lab’s Deepfake-O-Meter confirmed that the voice was AI-generated. The speech pattern anomalies and lack of synchronization also raised suspicions of manipulation.
The viral video of Colonel Sofia Qureshi speaking about her religion is doctored using AI-based deepfake technology. It is false and misleading.
