Delhi court seeks a report from Nizamuddin police station for not accepting FIR against PM Modi on hate speech

–  Abdul Bari Masoud

New Delhi, May 17: Delhi’s Saket Metropolitan Court, while hearing a petition filed today by senior journalist Qurban Ali, has sought report from Delhi’s Hazrat Nizamuddin Police Station regarding a complaint of hate speech against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. While summoning the action taken report (ATR) from the concerned police station, the court asked why Qurban Ali’s FIR was not registered.

Qurban Ali demanded action against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving communal, inflammatory, and hate speech targeting Muslims and for violating the Representation of the People Act 1951 during an election rally in Banswara-Rajasthan on April 21, 2024.  At this rally, Modi allegedly said, “When they (the Congress) were in power, they said that Muslims had the first right to the properties of the state. This means that they would collect these properties and give them to the ones who have more kids (insinuating Muslims). They will give it to the ghusapethyon (infiltrators). Do you want to give away your hard-earned money to the intruders?”

Ali had requested the Delhi Police register an FIR regarding the same on April 23, 2024. But Hazrat Nizamuddin Police Station did not register his FIR, against which he filed an application in the Saket Court of Delhi under Section 156(3).

Metropolitan Magistrate Kartik Tapadia, LD, after hearing arguments on the application today, sought an action taken report (ATR) from Hazrat Nizamuddin police station and asked why Qurban Ali’s FIR was not registered. The next hearing in this case will be on June 5.

Qurban Ali, through his application filed in the Saket Court of Delhi, asked the court to issue directions to SHO Hazrat Nizamuddin to register his FIR against PM Modi under IPC sections 153A/153B/295-A/298/504/505 and section 123(3A)/125 of the violation of the Representation of the People Act 1951.
