New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has directed police and civil authorities to ensure peaceful observance of Eid and Ram Navami in Uttam Nagar amid recent communal tension in the area.
A Division Bench led by Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia issued the order while hearing a petition raising concerns about possible disturbances during Eid. The court asked authorities to take all lawful steps to prevent any incident and maintain public order.
The Bench stressed that strong police presence must create confidence among residents of all communities. It warned that no group should disrupt peace or spread tension. Security measures will remain in place until Ram Navami, with the case scheduled for review on April 6.
The petition was filed by the Association for Protection of Civil Rights. It highlighted alleged threats against Muslims following the killing of a 26 year old man earlier this month during a local dispute linked to Holi celebrations. The incident later led to communal tension in the area.
The petitioner also raised concerns over public gatherings where inflammatory remarks were reportedly made. The court was urged to prevent violence and take action against those issuing threats.
Delhi Police informed the court that steps are already in place. These include continuous deployment of police and central forces, peace meetings with community leaders, and monitoring of social media content.
The court underlined that authorities must protect the right of citizens to observe religious festivals without fear. It called for vigilance and readiness to strengthen security if needed.
