The Delhi High Court has directed Jagdish Singh to publicly apologize to Mohammed Zubair, co-founder of AltNews, for a derogatory tweet labeling him as a “jihadi”. The court’s decision mandates that Singh issue the apology on his X account within one week and retain it for at least two months.
The tweet in question, posted in April 2020, read: “Once a jihadi is always jihadi.” Singh’s legal counsel has stated that Singh is prepared to comply with the court’s order and post the apology on his social media account.
Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani, presiding over the case, emphasized the importance of maintaining decorum on social media. He noted that an apology is a necessary step for correcting such comments, even if made without malicious intent.
This directive follows a plea by Zubair seeking to quash an FIR filed against him in Delhi. The FIR was related to a post Zubair made in August 2020, where he criticized Singh for his online behavior. Zubair had shared an image of Singh with a minor, accusing him of habitual online abuse.
