New Delhi: The Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) secured the acquittal of Gulfam and Shoaib. The judgment was delivered by the Learned Additional Sessions Judge, Praveen Singh, of Delhi’s Karkardooma Court in the case relating to the murder of Intelligence Bureau (IB) Officer Ankit Sharma during the 2020 North-East Delhi riots. The judgment was delivered on 13 July 2026 in Sessions Case No. 120/20, State v. Md. Tahir Hussain & Others, arising out of FIR No. 65/2020, Police Station Dayalpur.
From the very beginning of the proceedings, APCR ensured consistent legal representation for Gulfam and Shoaib through its panel of advocates. The acquittal follows years of legal proceedings during which APCR remained committed to safeguarding the constitutional right to a fair trial and due process. Before this judgment, APCR had also successfully secured bail for both accused in several other cases arising from the 2020 Delhi riots.
Advocate Sh. Rajiv Mohan, along with Ms. Tara Narula, Ms. Sonal Sarda, and Ms. Shivangi Sharma, appeared on behalf of APCR, whose dedicated legal efforts culminated in the acquittal of Gulfam and Shoaib.
APCR reiterates that access to competent legal representation is a cornerstone of the criminal justice system. The organisation remains committed to extending legal assistance to individuals facing criminal prosecution, ensuring that every accused receives a fair trial in accordance with the Constitution and the rule of law.
