Fatehpur: The demolition of a significant portion of the 180-year-old Noori Jama Masjid in Fatehpur district, Uttar Pradesh, has raised concerns among the local Muslim community and rights advocates. The action took place on Tuesday after the district administration’s notice and previous directives, which were reportedly not acted upon by the mosque committee, reports the Hindustan Times.
The Noori Jama Masjid, located in Lalauli town on Banda-Sagar Road, has long been a historic and cultural landmark for the region’s Muslim population. The section that was razed was constructed in the past three years to expand the mosque, but it conflicted with plans to widen the Banda-Bahraich road (State Highway 13).
