DEO Hyderabad Prohibits Sale of Uniforms, Accessories in School Premises

Hyderabad, June 2: Concerns among parents in Hyderabad have been mounting over the practices of private schools, particularly regarding excessive fees and mandatory purchases.

Reports indicate that many private schools in Hyderabad have been imposing substantial fees and donations without justification. Some institutions have been demanding up to a 20% annual fee increase, creating financial strain for families. Moreover, these schools have been accused of compelling parents to buy books, uniforms, and other essentials from the school at inflated prices, exacerbating the burden on parents.

In response to these issues, R. Rohini, the District Educational Officer (DEO) of Hyderabad District, issued an order on Thursday prohibiting private unaided schools from selling uniforms, shoes, belts, and similar items on their premises.

Rohini emphasized that all Deputy Educational Officers and Deputy Inspectors of Schools in Hyderabad District must ensure compliance with this directive. She stated that private school managements, whether affiliated with State, CBSE, or ICSE boards, are barred from selling these items within school grounds. Additionally, she reiterated that, as per court orders, the sale of books, notebooks, and stationery at school counters should be conducted on a non-commercial, no-profit-no-loss basis.

To ensure adherence to these regulations, Rohini instructed the formation of mandal-level committees. She stated: “All Deputy Educational Officers are requested to constitute mandal-level committees to regularly monitor private schools and ensure compliance. Any violations should be reported to the undersigned for necessary action.”

This move aims to alleviate the financial pressures on parents and ensure that the educational environment remains fair and equitable for all students.
