New Delhi: A meeting of the Joint Action Committee for the Promotion of Unani Medicine was held under the chairmanship of Hakim S.P. Bhatnagar at the office of the All India Unani Tibbi Congress located in Daryaganj here. The meeting focused extensively on the condition of Unani dispensaries functioning under the MCD (Municipal Corporation of Delhi).
On this occasion, Hakim S.P. Bhatnagar expressed regret over the delay in appointing Unani doctors and accused the MCD of treating them unfairly. He stated that although there are 33 Unani dispensaries under MCD, there are only 17 doctors, of whom only 2 are permanent while the rest are on a contractual basis. He alleged that the MCD has not appointed any Unani doctors for several years, which is not only a disregard for public sentiment but has also adversely affected the functioning of these Unani centres. He warned of the risk that these dispensaries may be merged into allopathy or Ayurveda systems.
During the meeting, a unanimous demand was made to the AYUSH Department for the immediate appointment of Unani doctors and compounders in MCD, highlighting that a large number of compounder positions remain vacant.
Representatives from various organisations participated in the meeting, including the All India Unani Tibbi Congress, All India Unani Tibbi Conference, All India Tibbi Vaidic Doctors Association, All India Unani and Ayurvedic Doctors Association, Islahi Healthcare Foundation, Anjuman Farogh-e-Tibb Delhi, Hakim Ajmal Khan Youth Brigade, and the Global Unani Medicine and Research Foundation.
