Disputed Imambara in Dhar Sealed and Handed Over to PWD

Dhar: Authorities in Madhya Pradesh have sealed a disputed Imambara in Dhar and transferred its possession to the Public Works Department (PWD), ending the long control of the local Tazia Committee over the property. The district administration said the action was carried out following a court order. A large police force was deployed at the site to prevent any law-and-order issues.

Officials stated that the Imambara had been at the center of a legal dispute for several years. The Tazia Committee, which earlier managed religious activities at the site, has now been denied access. The administration confirmed that the structure is now under government control and the PWD will be responsible for its upkeep.

Residents of Dhar expressed concern over the decision, pointing to the religious and cultural significance of the Imambara. Several Muslim groups described the move as an attempt to interfere with community religious practices. Local leaders have urged the government to reconsider the decision and return control of the property to the community.

Police maintained tight security during the sealing process to avoid any confrontation. Entry into the premises has been restricted. Officials said the decision was based on legal directions and stressed that it was not aimed at targeting any community.

The development has drawn sharp responses from community representatives, who plan to seek legal remedies. Lawyers representing the Tazia Committee indicated that they would file an appeal against the administration’s action. The situation in Dhar remains tense, with police continuing to monitor the area closely.

Observers say the dispute highlights broader concerns over management of religious properties and the role of the state in community affairs. The outcome of the legal challenge is expected to have implications for similar disputes in other regions.
