DMK to Challenge Waqf Bill in Supreme Court, Stalin Criticizes AIADMK’s Silence

Udhagamandalam: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has declared that the DMK will challenge the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in the Supreme Court, raising strong objections to the Centre’s proposed delimitation exercise and its impact on Tamil Nadu’s political voice, reported the Hindustan Times.
Speaking at a public event after inaugurating various development projects and announcing new schemes, Stalin said he has requested an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to hand over a memorandum detailing Tamil Nadu’s concerns over the delimitation plan. He urged the PM to ensure the passage of a Parliamentary resolution to protect the rights of Tamil Nadu.
“This is not just about reducing parliamentary seats—it’s about our future,” Stalin said. “Including Puducherry, we have 40 seats. But the BJP government is attempting to diminish our voice through this move.”
In a significant announcement, Stalin said that senior DMK MP A Raja would file a petition in the Supreme Court on Monday against the controversial Waqf (Amendment) Bill. He lashed out at the AIADMK for failing to take a strong stand against the Bill in Parliament.
“While our MPs, A Raja and Trichy Siva, opposed the Bill in detail, AIADMK MP Thambidurai spoke for hardly a minute, and even then, it was unclear if he was supporting or opposing it,” Stalin added, slamming the rival party for its ambiguous stance.
This comes amidst growing criticism from the DMK over what they perceive as the BJP’s attempts to centralize power and erode state autonomy.
