New Delhi: A meeting of the All India Unani Tibbi Congress (AIUTC) was held under the chairmanship of its Secretary General, Dr. Syed Ahmed Khan, with the aim of promoting export-quality, multi-specialty integrated medical exercise (Tibbi Riyazat). The meeting focused on protecting the public from illnesses caused by sedentary modern lifestyles and the difficulties people face in carrying out their daily routines, with an emphasis on maintaining overall health and fitness.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Badrul Islam Kairanvi, an international authority on medical exercise; renowned Islamic scholar Mufti Javed Anwar; Mohammad Imran Qannauji; and journalist Mohammad Owais.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Syed Ahmed Khan said that exercise should not be adopted merely as a formality but should be practised scientifically as a means of maintaining good health. He added that science has no religion and works for the welfare of the entire humanity, and therefore exercise should not be given any religious colouring. He noted that physical exercise, as a form of medical therapy, exists in some form or the other in every branch of medical science, and within Unani medicine it is included in the curriculum under regimental therapy, riyazat (exercise), and dalak (massage).
Agreeing with Dr. Khan’s remarks, Mufti Javed Anwar said that just as Unani medicine is a recognised system of treatment, dalak and riyazat, i.e. medical exercise are also integral parts of it. He observed that just as health is improved through medical exercise, physiotherapy, and yoga, those responsible for Unani medicine should likewise work to promote medical exercise in accordance with the curriculum already present within the Unani system.
Dr. Badrul Islam Kairanvi, Convener of the Tibbi Riyazat Wing of AIUTC, extended thanks to all participants at the conclusion of the meeting.
