New Delhi: Doordarshan has refused to stream the first biopic on Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, founder of Aligarh Muslim University.
Titled Sir Syed Ahmad Khan: The Messiah, the film was premiered by AMU Vice-Chancellor Naima Khatoon before a large audience.
A Doordarshan program executive stated in a letter that the proposal “did not qualify for streaming under the revenue-sharing mode on Prasar Bharati’s upcoming platform.”
Shoaib Choudhury, the biopic’s producer and lead actor, expressed shock at the rejection, noting that one of his previous films had enjoyed a long run on DD. He alleged political interference behind the decision.
Mudassir Hayat, President of AMU Old Boys Association (Delhi NCR), emphasized the biopic’s significance in inspiring the new generation toward education.
Viewers praised the film for its contemporary relevance and strong message on education. Critics questioned the rationale behind rejecting a biopic on a Muslim educationist.
