New Delhi, Aug 28: In the recently concluded elections of the India Islamic Cultural Centre (IICC), former Pro-Vice Chancellor of Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Dr Khwaja M. Shahid, emerged victorious. Following his win, Advocate Rais Ahmed, Chairman of Caravan Foundation, along with Dr Idris Qureshi, Acting President of the Delhi Muslim Majlis Mushawarat, and other social figures, visited Dr Shahid’s residence to congratulate him on his achievement.
Dr Khwaja Shahid secured his position on the Board of Trustees of the Centre in a fiercely contested election that saw 39 candidates in the fray. The vote-counting process itself spanned over three days, reflecting the intensity of the competition. Notably, former Union Minister Salman Khurshid was elected as the President of the Centre.
To extend their congratulations, several notable personalities joined Advocate Rais Ahmed. These included Supreme Court Advocate Aslam Ahmed, Administrator of The Scholar School Qazi Mohammed Miyan, and Aijaz Gori from AIEM, among others.
It is worth noting that Dr Shahid holds a distinguished position in the field of education. His vast experience has raised hopes for the Islamic Centre to focus more on educational initiatives. Known for his calm demeanour and charismatic personality, Dr Khwaja Shahid has already fulfilled one of his electoral promises by installing portraits of the Centre’s founders in the gallery. It is expected that similar momentum will be seen in other developmental activities within the Centre and for the public at large.
