Srinagar: The family of Dr Muzammil Ganaie, arrested after the recovery of 350 kilograms of explosives from a rented room in Faridabad, has denied any link between the young doctor and terrorist networks. The Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested Dr Ganaie, who worked at a hospital under Al-Falah University, over alleged connections to extremist groups.
Speaking to PTI, Dr Ganaie’s brother, Azad Shakil, dismissed the accusations as baseless. “It is being alleged that he is a big terrorist. We have no knowledge of it. For the past five decades, there has been no case against anyone from our family,” he said.
The family, residents of Pulwama and farmers by profession, described themselves as proud Indians who have faced hostility in the past for their nationalist stance. “We are completely Indians and have stood for the nation. You can verify it from anyone in the village,” Shakil said.
He added that Dr Ganaie was a “good person” and had been planning to return home for his sister’s wedding, which has now been cancelled. The family has not been permitted to meet him since his arrest.
Authorities allege that the Faridabad network is connected to a recent explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort and was planning to expand terror activities across states. Following the arrests, the Union government transferred the case to the National Investigation Agency after a high-level security meeting chaired by Home Minister Amit Shah.
