July 13, 2024: The Telangana state government has appointed Dr. Riaz as the new Chairman of the State Central Library. This decision, initially made public on March 15th, had been delayed due to the enforcement of the election code.
A respected educationist and history columnist, Dr. Riaz has a background rooted in social movements and has risen to prominence through his dedication to public service. He is expected to assume office tomorrow.
The State Central Library is one of the oldest libraries in Hyderabad.. The 131-year-old Nizam-era building, previously known as Asafia Library, houses a vast collection of over 5 lakh books, including many rare and exclusive volumes.The Osmanian architecture structure houses a plethora of rare books in various languages such as Sanskrit, Urdu, English, Arabic, Persian, Hindi, and Telugu.The library building sits on a 72,247 square yards space.
