HumaneTouch and Dr. S Radhakrishnan DIET host Awareness Program on Mental Well-being, Moral Values and Ethics

Port Blair, Jan. 31: To promote a comprehensive approach to education and educators, Dr S Radhakrishnan District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) in collaboration with HumaneTouch organized a one-day awareness program focusing on Mental Well-Being, Moral Values, and Ethics on Wednesday. The event, held at the institute’s auditorium here, was attended by trainees, educators, and professionals from in and around the city.

The session began with a melodious welcome song by the trainees of Dr. SR DIET followed by welcome address by Smt. Sheela Devi, faculty DIET and lighting of lamp to mark the brightness of education and knowledge.

The Chief Guest, Mr. M Nehru, Principal- DIET provided valuable insights into the significance of mental well-being and practical integration of moral values and ethics in educational settings. He emphasized the need for initiatives to address the critical issue of mental health.

In a concise yet comprehensive presentation, Mrs. Sajida Zubair, a distinguished Counsellor and Principal at DAPS, elucidated the meanings of stress, depression, and anxiety. Emphasizing that these terms are often both overused and abused, she underscored the significance of acknowledging one’s feelings. She urged individuals not to hesitate in seeking help, emphasizing the importance of addressing mental health concerns proactively.

Resource person Ayushi Pal, who is a scholar, in a brief but impactful session, emphasized the importance of ethics and values. She highlighted the need to understand the hierarchy of values for ethical decision-making and stressed that embracing ethics leads to personal growth and societal well-being. Pal called for a collective effort in instilling ethical values, especially in educators, urging them to actively contribute to shaping young minds.

P Mujib Rehman, Ex- President HumaneTouch introduced the organization and shared its goals and achievements, expressing gratitude for the institute’s commitment to holistic development of the trainees.

The screening of a documentary film ‘Mind Matters,’ focusing on the critical subject of mental health and produced by HumaneTouch, was a noteworthy component of the event. The documentary offered valuable insights into mental health concerns and contributed to the overall informative nature of the program.

A comprehensive survey on navigating mental well-being, meticulously compiled by Sajida Zubair and P. Mujib Rehman, was also conducted and the audience actively participated by responding to survey questionnaire, which promises to offer valuable insights for assessing the prevailing mental health crisis in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Dr S Radhakrishnan DIET reiterated its commitment to providing a well-rounded education that goes beyond academic achievements to its trainees. The success of this awareness program serves as a testament to the institute’s dedication to nurturing not only knowledgeable but also emotionally and morally intelligent individuals. This one-day awareness program was met with enthusiasm and praise. The event underscored the institute’s commitment to fostering a well-balanced and supportive educational environment, setting a positive precedent for the integration of these essential principles in the broader education sector. The event was attended by more than 65 people including Mr. Intezaar Nayeem, President HT and its members. While the program was orchestrated and guided by the gracious hosting of Dr. Suja Johnson, the Vote of Thanks was proposed by Shri. J Govinda Raju.
