Kolkata: The Election Commission of India estimates that over 10 lakh names will be removed from the West Bengal voters list after the ongoing Special Intensive Revision. The estimate is based on enumeration forms collected by booth-level officers and uploaded through the BLO App, according to an official in the office of the Chief Electoral Officer of the state.
The names marked for deletion include deceased voters, duplicate entries, voters who shifted to other states, and individuals who remain untraceable. According to the CEO office, the largest category is deceased voters, which is expected to account for around 6.5 lakh deletions. Officials are still collecting and uploading forms. The final number will be confirmed once the process ends and the draft list is published.
CEO Manoj Kumar Agarwal urged all voters who have not submitted their forms to complete the process without delay. The deadline for submission is December 4. The commission will not extend the deadline. Names linked to incomplete submissions will be removed automatically. The draft voters list will be published on December 9.
Agarwal also responded to reports about the deaths of three booth-level officers during the revision work in the state. He confirmed that the ECI received full reports from district magistrates. He acknowledged the dedication of BLOs and noted their central role in the revision effort.
