Bengaluru: Education must shape character and values alongside academic excellence, said Riyaz Ahmed Ron, Secretary of the Board of Islamic Education (BIE), Karnataka, while addressing a Talent Award and Prize Distribution Ceremony held at the Islamic Centre in Valmiki Nagar.
Presiding over the programme, Riyaz Ahmed Ron said education extends far beyond reading and writing. He stressed that true education develops discipline, self restraint, and sound moral values, preparing children to become responsible members of society.
Speaking on the growing emphasis placed on academic achievement, he observed that parents and teachers often devote considerable attention to school syllabi and examinations while giving less importance to discussions on ethics and personal conduct. He said every family hopes its children will become successful professionals such as doctors, engineers, or senior government officers. Along with these aspirations, parents should also strive to nurture honesty, compassion, and integrity in their children.
He urged parents and educators to make character building an integral part of a child’s upbringing. According to him, education achieves its real purpose only when it produces individuals who combine knowledge with moral responsibility and contribute positively to society.
The programme recognised students for their academic achievements and encouraged them to pursue excellence with humility and a strong sense of social responsibility. Organisers said such events motivate young learners while reminding families that education must remain rooted in ethical values.
Maulana Mufti Musaddiq Ahmed, Imam and Khateeb of Masjid-e-Huda, delivered a detailed address on the importance of Islamic education. He explained that religious learning provides spiritual guidance and strengthens moral foundations, enabling young people to face contemporary challenges while remaining committed to Islamic principles.
Muhammad Nasrullah, State Coordinator of the Board of Islamic Education, delivered the introductory address and outlined the organisation’s efforts to promote value based education among students. He highlighted the Board’s commitment to combining academic progress with Islamic learning and personal development.
The programme was compered by Sabiha Naseem, who guided the proceedings throughout the event. Iqbal Ahmed Godihal, Ameer-e-Muqami of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Mysore Road, proposed the vote of thanks and appreciated the participation of students, parents, teachers, and community members.
The ceremony concluded with the distribution of talent awards and prizes to deserving students, reinforcing the message that academic success and strong moral values should advance together in building the next generation.
