Egypt and India Strengthen Islamic Academic Cooperation

Cairo: Dr. Nazir Mohamed Ayad, Grand Mufti of Egypt and Secretary-General of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Bodies, met with Dr. Bahauddin Muhammad Nadwi, Vice President of Darul Huda Islamic University in India, to discuss expanding Islamic academic and training cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting focused on developing joint programs in scientific research, education, and fatwa-related training. Dr. Ayad presented the Egyptian institution’s accredited programs, which integrate traditional Islamic jurisprudence with social sciences and modern fatwa methodologies. He also outlined Egypt’s ongoing digital transformation in issuing electronic fatwas, aimed at equipping scholars with practical tools for addressing current issues.

Dr. Bahauddin Muhammad Nadwi expressed his appreciation for Dar al-Ifta’s structured approach to ijtihad and its commitment to moderation. He conveyed Darul Huda’s interest in building long-term partnerships that benefit students and researchers across India and the wider Muslim world.

The two institutions agreed to establish joint training initiatives, undertake collaborative research, and produce translations in Urdu to make scholarly resources more accessible. They also emphasised the importance of promoting balanced Islamic thought and strengthening institutional capacity to counter extremist ideologies.

The General Secretariat of Fatwa Bodies, which includes 111 institutions worldwide, serves as a platform for cooperation among Islamic scholars. Both sides reaffirmed their shared vision of preparing a new generation of Muslim scholars equipped to engage thoughtfully with the modern world.
