Emulate Caliph Umar’s Governance for a Crime-Free Society: JIH Telangana President Mohammad Azharuddin at Human Dignity Campaign Finale

By Mujahid.Md

Hyderabad: In a powerful call for social and systemic reform, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) Telangana concluded its 15-day statewide “Manavatwa Gouravam” (Human Dignity) campaign with a massive public meeting at the Chanchalguda Government Junior College grounds on Sunday night.

The keynote address by Mohammad Azharuddin, President of JIH Telangana, centred on the profound historical endorsement of Islamic governance by the Father of the Nation. He reminded the audience that Mahatma Gandhi had famously cited the administration of the second Caliph of Islam, Hazrat Umar Farooq as the gold standard for a just and equitable state.

“Gandhiji envisioned a leadership where the ruler is accountable to the humblest citizen. Today, our society grapples with rising crime because we have traded that accountability for corruption and political expediency,” Mr. Azharuddin stated. He emphasised that the Umar Model of governance – marked by transparency, fearlessness, and the rule of law – is the only antidote to the modern crisis of ethics.

Addressing the surge in the crime graph, the JIH State President asserted that law enforcement agencies must function without external pressures. “Laws exist on paper, but peace is established only when there is a will to punish the guilty regardless of their stature. Transparency is the missing link in our current system,” he added.

The speakers collectively voiced deep concern over the “deluge” of drug abuse, alcoholism, and the increasing atrocities against women.

Maulana Jafar Pasha made a stirring appeal to parents, noting that the “moral decline of youth is a red flag for the nation.” He urged families to prioritise spiritual and ethical values in upbringing.

Maulana Ghiyas Ahmed Rashadi, President of Safa Baitul Maal, highlighted that maintaining the sanctity of human life and dignity is a divine mandate for all of humanity.

The campaign finale concluded with a unanimous resolution: Silence against injustice is a crime in itself. The leadership urged citizens to adopt the principle of “Enjoining Good and Forbidding Evil” as a personal lifestyle.

The event saw a significant turnout of thousands, including prominent members like Muslim Personal Law Board member Mateenuddin Quadri and several regional representatives. The organization declared that while the 15-day campaign has come to an end, the “Maha Yagnam” (great mission) to create a healthy, crime-free society will continue at the grassroots level in every neighbourhood and slum.
