Hyderabad, Sep 4: AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has expressed the apprehension that if NPR and NRC happen in the country, the entire country may see disturbing scenes like those seen in Assam where 28 Muslims were sent to detention centre amid heart-rending cries by their family members.
The Hyderabad MP said that the Narendra Modi government wants to conduct NPR and NRC along with the Census from September. He recalled that Telangana Assembly had passed a resolution making it clear that NPR and NRC will not be conducted.
Owaisi said the cries of the family members of those who were sent to a detention camp in Assam had disturbed all. He slammed Assam border police for Monday’s incident. He alleged that Assam border police is very biased and randomly picks people and declare them foreigners.
“If there are six members in a family, Assam border police picks one and call him a foreigner,” he said.
He asked how other family members of 28 people arrested and sent to detention centre are Indians.
He challenged the government to send to Bangladesh those kept in detention centres. He said that Bangladesh does not accept even if those declared foreigners are deported to that country. He also termed the approach of the foreigners’ tribunal exclusionary and arbitrary.

The AIMIM chief mentioned that Section 9 of the Foreigners Act places the burden of proof on those accused of being foreigners. “In Rahim Ali’s case the Supreme Court ruled that there was gross injustice in the entire process,” he said and pointed out that by the time the judgment of the apex court came Rahim Ali had passed away.
On the killing of a 19-year-old student in Haryana by Gau Rakshaks, Owaisi termed them ‘Rakshas’ (devils).
“The murderers are saying we have committed a mistake by killing a youth of our Brahmin samaj. They have killed a human being, whether he is a Hindu or Muslim,” he said. The AIMIM president alleged that the Haryana government has given them a free run to do whatever they want. He wanted to know how the assailants procured the gun. “If they have arms license, who gave it,” he asked.
Owaisi remarked the Haryana government is encouraging Gau Rakshaks by giving them weapons and deploying them on roads. He wondered if the police had given their duties to Gau Rakshaks.
