Ethical Values: A Pillar of Freedom, Say Experts at JIH Women’s Wing Event in Jaipur

Jaipur: The Women’s Wing of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind is spearheading a nationwide campaign in September to highlight the importance of ethical values. As part of this initiative, a discussion titled “Ethical Values: The Foundation of Freedom” was held at the Pink City Press Club here Sunday.

In her opening address, Rubina Abrar, the state convener of the Women’s Wing, stressed that ethics and freedom are deeply interconnected.

“Freedom is a fundamental right for all, regardless of religion, race, or caste. However, freedom does not mean unlimited liberty. Without ethics, freedom becomes like a kite lost in a storm. True freedom respects the boundaries of others,” she remarked.

Abrar also warned against certain forces influencing the youth with misleading slogans, which she said are contributing to stress, mental health issues, and addiction. Ethical values, she noted, are essential for a peaceful and balanced life.

Shaista Rafat, National Secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind’s Women’s Wing and the chief guest of the event, emphasized the importance of building a society that respects women and holds accountable those who commit violence against them.

“We must collectively create a culture where women are protected and those who harm them are socially boycotted,” Rafat urged. She also expressed concern over the erosion of humanity in today’s culture due to unrestrained freedom, calling for a revival of values to preserve social harmony.

Rafat further stressed the need for proactive solutions to societal problems, focusing on prevention at the grassroots level.

“Addressing these issues early will help prevent larger crises from emerging in the country,” she added.

Other notable speakers included Dr. Ayesha Qureshi, a psychologist; Dr. Haani Shoji, Assistant Professor at St. Xavier’s College; Dr. Samra Sultana, a member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board; Nisha Sidhu, National Secretary of National Federation of Indian Women; and motivational speaker Dr. Manjit Kaur. Each speaker highlighted the critical role ethical values play in shaping a peaceful society and urged for greater emphasis on instilling these values in the younger generation to combat negative influences.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Summaya Mariam, who expressed gratitude to all participants for their contributions to the discussion.
