Srinagar: Former BJP MLA Faqir Mohammad Khan, who contested the 2024 assembly elections from Gurez, allegedly died by suicide by shooting himself at his residence in Srinagar, reported the Indian Express.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced the news during the ongoing Assembly session on Thursday. The entire Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, including CM Abdullah, Speaker A R Rather, and opposition leader Sunil Sharma, observed a two-minute silence in Khan’s memory and conveyed condolences to his family.
Khan had contested the Gurez constituency as a BJP candidate in the 2024 assembly elections, securing 7,246 votes.
