Ex-Congress MLA Shaikh Asif Launches Party Named ‘ISLAM,’ Aims to Shake Up Polls in Malegaon Central

Malegaon:  Former Congress MLA and prominent social activist Shaikh Asif launched a political party named ISLAM (Indian Society for Love, Awareness, and Morality). With the 2024 Maharashtra elections approaching, this move adds a new dimension to the political landscape of Malegaon Central (a 76% Muslim constituency), currently held by AIMIM’s Mufti Ismail. The Samajwadi Party is also eyeing this key seat.

Speaking at the launch event attended by thousands, Asif Shaikh unveiled his party’s vision of inclusivity, vowing to promote unity across all religions and castes. “ISLAM will not serve any one community alone but will work for the progress and welfare of every section of society,” he said.

He emphasised that the party aims to provide a strong political platform for Muslims while promoting cooperation between all communities. Shaikh underlined the party’s focus on education, employment, and healthcare, areas often neglected in minority-dominated regions.

He declared, “The objective is not merely to contest elections but to serve the people sincerely and create a just society.” The name ISLAM, he explained, reflects the party’s commitment to moral values and the idea of service, transcending religious boundaries.

The launch event was attended by leaders from different communities, who expressed their support for the party’s goals. Senior party members also addressed the gathering, pledging to make public service their mission. Shaikh urged people from all faiths to join the movement, calling it a vehicle for social justice and change. As the 2024 elections near, ISLAM’s performance could play a decisive role in reshaping the dynamics of this Muslim-majority constituency.
