Brussels — Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has voiced strong condemnation over the continued killing of children in Gaza, calling for an urgent ceasefire and an end to the humanitarian crisis in the region, reported the Daily Sabah.
Ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix this weekend, Hamilton took to social media to express his outrage, sharing a UNICEF post that reported the deaths of more than 100 Palestinian children in the first week of July alone due to intensified Israeli airstrikes. “We can no longer stay silent,” Hamilton wrote in a powerful story post, amplifying growing international calls for a ceasefire.
The humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate under the ongoing Israeli blockade that began on October 7, 2023. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, at least 122 people have died from hunger and malnutrition so far — including 83 children.
On Friday, Israeli forces reportedly killed at least 71 Palestinians, including 42 individuals who were seeking humanitarian aid. Attacks have continued into the weekend, with 19 more killed since early Sunday morning, and five more reported dead due to starvation.
Adding to the crisis, Israeli authorities have seized the Handala ship from the Freedom Flotilla — a humanitarian effort attempting to break the blockade — and detained all 21 crew members on board.
Despite growing global pressure and widespread condemnation, Israel has refused to agree to a ceasefire. Since the beginning of the military offensive, more than 59,600 Palestinians — a majority of them women and children — have lost their lives, according to local sources.
Hamilton’s statement adds to a growing chorus of public figures and rights organizations urging for immediate action to prevent further loss of innocent lives in Gaza.
