Faiz Ahmed Kidwai Appointed Director General of DGCA

New Delhi: Faiz Ahmed Kidwai, a 1996-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, has been appointed Director General of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The announcement was made on Friday by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), reports The Hindustan Times.

Kidwai, a Madhya Pradesh cadre officer, is currently serving as an additional secretary in the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. His extensive administrative experience includes leadership roles in Madhya Pradesh’s tourism and transport departments.

The appointment follows the vacancy created after Vikram Dev Dutt, a 1993-batch IAS officer and the previous DGCA chief, stepped down on October 20, 2024, to take over as the Coal Secretary. Since Dutt’s departure, Dinesh Chand Sharma, the senior-most joint director general of DGCA, has been managing additional responsibilities.

Kidwai steps into the role at a critical juncture for India’s aviation sector, which is experiencing rapid growth accompanied by challenges such as supply chain constraints, pilot fatigue, and safety concerns.

In a separate announcement, the ACC also approved the appointment of Ashutosh Agnihotri, a 1999-batch IAS officer from the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, as the chairman and managing director of the Food Corporation of India (FCI). Agnihotri is currently an additional secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs. Also, Akash Tripathi, a 1998-batch IAS officer and CEO of MyGov, has been named as an additional secretary in the Ministry of Power.
