Faridabad: A 17-year-old girl was shot by a man who had been stalking her in Haryana’s Faridabad district on Monday evening. The incident occurred in Ballabhgarh, around 40 kilometres from Delhi, as the girl was returning home from her coaching class.
Police identified the accused as Jatin Mangla. CCTV footage showed him waiting in an alley with a bike and a bag before ambushing the girl. When she appeared, he drew his gun and fired twice. One bullet struck her shoulder while another grazed her abdomen. Her two friends fled in fear before one of them returned to help as the attacker escaped on his bike.
The injured girl was rushed to hospital and is undergoing treatment. Police confirmed that the weapon used in the shooting has been recovered. “The accused is known to the victim, and she has identified him. An FIR has been registered and search operations are underway,” a police spokesperson said.
According to the victim’s sister, the accused had been harassing her for several days. The family had earlier confronted him and spoken to his mother, who had promised to stop her son’s behaviour. “We trusted her words, and the next day he attacked my sister,” she said.
The brutal incident has renewed public concern over women’s safety in Haryana, where repeated cases of stalking and violence against girls continue to surface despite legal safeguards.
