Farooq College Students Engage in Academic Exchange at Al Sharqiya University, Oman

Calicut, Kerala: A group of students from Farooq College, Kozhikode, took part in an academic exchange visit to Al Sharqiya University in the Sultanate of Oman. The visit formed part of the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan, a higher education initiative of the Government of India.

The Department of Arabic at Farooq College organised the exchange in coordination with the Department of Arabic at Al Sharqiya University. The delegation included eleven postgraduate students. Dr Yunus Saleem, Head of the Department of Arabic, and Dr K.P. Abbas, Programme Coordinator, accompanied the students.

The exchange focused on academic learning and cultural exposure linked to Arabic language and literature. Students joined workshops and interactive sessions led by scholars from Al Sharqiya University. Discussions covered Arabic literature, literary criticism, Omani history, and cultural heritage. These sessions offered direct engagement with academic practices in an international setting.

The programme also included visits to heritage and cultural sites across Oman. The delegation toured Nizwa, Jebel Akhdar, the Oman Across Ages Museum, and the National Museum in Muscat. These visits provided context to classroom learning and introduced students to Oman’s historical development and cultural institutions.

Faculty members said the exchange strengthened academic cooperation between the two institutions. The initiative supported research interests in Arabic studies through exposure to diverse academic perspectives. Students reported improved understanding of the Arab world through structured learning and guided interaction.

The exchange reflects ongoing efforts to expand international academic collaboration within Arabic studies. Organisers said similar programmes help students gain global academic experience while maintaining focus on language, culture, and scholarly engagement.
