Advocate Rais Ahmed Extends Best Wishes to All Candidates
New Delhi, June 27: The final list of candidates for the office bearers’ elections of the India Islamic Cultural Center, located in the upscale Lodhi Road area here, has been released. The list was announced by Justice Tavleen Singh, a former Delhi High Court judge and the elections’ observer. Following the announcement, Advocate Rais Ahmed, Chairman of the Caravan Foundation, extended his best wishes to all the candidates.
Notably, this year’s race for the president’s position includes seven candidates, such as former Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid, former Income Tax Commissioner and Advocate Abrar Ahmed, and cancer surgeon Dr. Mohammad Majid Talikoti. A significant development is that Sirajuddin Qureshi, the incumbent president, is not contesting this time. Instead, he has fielded Dr. Majid Talikoti from his panel.
The vice-presidential race is also highly competitive, with seven candidates including Professor Afrozul Haq, Ahmed Raza, Badruddin Khan, and Kaleemul Hafeez vying for the position.
An interesting aspect of this election is the large number of candidates for the Board of Trustees. Despite withdrawals, 39 candidates remain in the fray for seven positions. Among the prominent contenders are former president of the center Sirajuddin Qureshi, former Pro-Vice Chancellor of MANUU Professor Khwaja Shahid, former IPS officer Qamar Ahmed, and Kamal Farooqui. Women candidates include Satya Siddiqui and F. Naz.
For the four positions of Executive Members, 22 candidates are contesting. Notable candidates include Dr. Abdul Nabeel Siddiqui, former Principal of Okhla School, Dr. Azam Baig, Professor Shamama Ahmed, and two women candidates, Gulnar Mirza and Shahana Begum.
Advocate Rais Ahmed’s message of goodwill has added a positive note to the upcoming elections, encouraging a fair and spirited contest among all participants.
Elections will be held on 11th August 2024.
