Mysuru: Karnataka Police have filed an FIR against former BJP MP Pratap Simha for his remarks against Muslims, linked to the recent Udayagiri police station attack. The case was registered on Saturday after a complaint by Youth Congress President Syed Abrar.
The complaint states that Simha said Muslims should have left India during Partition and accused them of only increasing their population without contributing to the nation. Abrar alleged that these remarks insult Muslims and could incite communal unrest.
“Simha’s statements imply that Muslims are not citizens, which is offensive and threatens communal harmony,” Abrar said, demanding legal action.
Simha, ex-MP from Mysuru-Kodagu and known for his hardline Hindutva views, has often sparked controversy with provocative comments. His latest remarks come amid communal tensions in Mysuru following the Udayagiri police station violence.
The violence erupted after a social media post by Satish alias Panduranga, who allegedly made derogatory remarks about Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, and Arvind Kejriwal, along with communal comments. Protests by the minority community outside the police station turned violent, leading to stone pelting and damage to police property.
Police used lathi-charge and tear gas to disperse the mob, arresting 17 people, including an Islamic religious teacher. Meanwhile, the BJP and Rashtra Suraksha Jan Andolan Samiti plan a large convention in Mysuru on February 24, protesting the Karnataka government’s alleged inaction.
Authorities maintain tight security as political and community leaders react to the developments.
