Five Arrested with Weapons for Attempting to Incite Communal Violence during Idol Immersion in Sitamarhi

Sitamarhi: The Bihar police successfully thwarted an attempt to incite communal violence during the Durga idol immersion ceremony in the Majorganj police station area, preventing a potential disaster.

The incident occurred at the Basbita Bazaar, where a flag procession was being held as part of the Durga Puja celebrations. A group of six individuals from Basbita village infiltrated the crowd, brandishing dangerous weapons and chanting provocative, inflammatory slogans.

According to a police statement, the group was reportedly harassing Muslim residents of the area, attempting to spread communal tension. When they were confronted by an on-duty female officer, Veena Kumari, the group resorted to abusive language, physical altercations, and vandalism of local shops.

Upon receiving the report, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Ram Krishna arrived on the scene with police reinforcements to investigate. During a search of Ujjwal Kumar alias Tantan and Gopal Mishra, officers found a loaded 315-bore country-made pistol, with live cartridges in both the chamber and the pocket of the accused.

Following this, five individuals, including Adarsh Kumar, Shivam Paswan, Nikhil Kumar, Subhash Kumar, and Ujjwal Kumar, were arrested. FIRs have been lodged under various sections of the IPC and the Arms Act, including 191(2), 191(3), 190, and 25 (1-B) A/26/35, among others. Police are currently searching for the remaining suspects, Nipendra Kumar alias Mohanlal and Shampu Mishra, who managed to flee the scene.
