Gaza City — Five Palestinian journalists and multiple members of their families were killed before dawn today when Israeli warplanes struck several locations across the Gaza Strip, according to local sources and Hamas officials, reported the Maktoob Media.
Those killed have been identified as Abdel Rahman Al-Abadleh, Aziz Al-Hajjar, Ahmad Al-Zinati, and married reporters Nour Qandil and Khaled Abu Seif. Relatives, including children, also died in the bombardment of their homes and temporary tents.
In a statement, Hamas condemned what it called a “simultaneous deliberate operation” aimed at silencing the press, describing the attack as “a complex crime that exposes the brutality of this fascist entity.” The group said today’s deaths lift the toll of Palestinian media workers killed since the outbreak of war on 7 October 2023 to more than 230.
Hamas further criticised the international community for what it called “powerless” silence in the face of “unprecedented war crimes broadcast live to the world.” The Israeli military has not yet commented on the specific strikes.
The latest fatalities come amid renewed fighting in northern and central Gaza, where residents report intensified air-and-ground operations. Human-rights organisations have repeatedly urged Israel to protect journalists and civilians, warning that attacks on media personnel may constitute war crimes under international law.
