Hyderabad: For the first time since the formation of Telangana state, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) staged a walk-out from Telangana Assembly on Monday to protest over the manner in which the House was being run.
AIMIM, a friendly party of ruling Congress, took strong exception to the way the proceedings of the House were being conducted. AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi alleged that democracy was being murdered in the Assembly. He said the ruling party has failed to effectively conduct the business in the House.
Akbaruddin Owaisi was enraged after a question from his party remained unanswered during the question hour. He vented his dissatisfaction over Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar for abruptly closing the Question Hour.
He alleged that neither the members were getting the assembly agenda for the next day on time nor was the Chair giving them an opportunity to air their views. He said the government was not answering their questions and even changing the questions.
Owaisi urged the Chair to ensure proper conduct of the business in the House. “This is assembly not Gandhi Bhavan (Congress office),” he remarked and trouped out of the House along with AIMIM members.
This is the first time after formation of Telangana state in 2014 that AIMIM has staged a walk-out from the state Assembly.
The AIMIM, which has seven members in 119-member Assembly, was considered a close ally of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), which ruled the state for 10 years.
In 2023 elections, the AIMIM had once again declared its support to BRS. However, after BRS lost power to the Congress party, Asaduddin Owaisi-led party became friendly with the Congress party.
