India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and his daughters have come under a wave of hate and harassment on social media platforms, particularly from Hindutva-aligned accounts, in the wake of the recently announced India-Pakistan ceasefire, reported the Maktoob Media.
The online campaign against Misri escalated after India’s military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. Misri, who played a key role in articulating India’s position, was subjected to derogatory labels like “Traitor,” “Gaddar,” and “Deshdrohi.” Right-wing trolls further intensified the attacks by doxxing him—sharing his old family pictures and private contact details—dragging his daughters into the firestorm of abuse.
One of Misri’s daughters faced particularly severe trolling for her past support of Rohingya refugees. Posts resurfaced showing her involvement in legal aid for Rohingyas, which were weaponized by trolls to question her patriotism and even her citizenship. In one egregious act, her personal mobile number was made public.
A post by user @rohithverse read: “How did I miss this. Daughter of Foreign Secretary of India – Vikram Misri – openly providing legal assistance to Rohingyas. I repeat, each and every bureaucrat in India is compromised. Absolutely shameful and pathetic.”
Another account, @Rimoru121145, wrote: “Traitor, Gaddar, Deshdrohi! You made your offsprings settle outside of India before prostrating and offering your head to Pakistan. Shameful, absolutely shameful.”
User @TheRightster added: “The daughter of our Foreign Secretary not only writes for ‘The Wire’, a site blocked by the Government of India and regularly accused by BJP of being anti-national, but also actively provides legal assistance to Rohingyas in London. LET THAT SINK IN.”

Following the personal attacks, Misri was forced to make his X account private to protect his family’s privacy.
The backlash has triggered widespread condemnation. AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi defended Misri, stating, “Mr Vikram Misri is a decent and honest, hard-working diplomat who works tirelessly for our nation. Our civil servants operate under the executive branch – this must be remembered. They shouldn’t be blamed for decisions taken by the executive or any political leadership.”
Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair also spoke out, stating, “Dragging family members, especially daughters, into political disputes is disgusting. Abusing and doxxing a young woman for her views on Rohingya refugees is a new low.”
Senior journalist Aditya Menon criticized the vitriol, writing, “Vikram Misri is a career diplomat doing his job. Targeting his daughters, leaking their details, and abusing them for their opinions is shameful and dangerous.”
Meanwhile, addressing the ongoing tensions with Pakistan, Misri reiterated India’s position during a press briefing, saying, “Our approach is not to escalate the situation; we only responded to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.” He clarified that India’s operations, including Operation Sindoor, were strictly retaliatory.
On Friday, Misri announced the temporary suspension of services at the Kartarpur Sahib corridor due to prevailing security threats, stating that it would remain closed “until further directions.”
The ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, which came on Saturday, followed rising cross-border hostilities. In response, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a high-level security meeting on Sunday with top defence officials, including the Army, Navy, and Air Force Chiefs, Chief of Defence Staff Anil Chauhan, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. A Defence Ministry press conference scheduled for Sunday morning was postponed pending the outcome of this crucial meeting.
