Foreign Students Asked to Leave Gujarat University Hostel Following Namaz Controversy

Ahmedabad, April 8: In the wake of a recent altercation involving foreign students offering namaz (Islamic prayers) at Gujarat University, seven international students have been instructed to vacate their hostel rooms due to overstaying, according to university officials on Sunday.

The directive to vacate the hostel rooms was issued to six students from Afghanistan and one from East Africa, confirmed Neerja Gupta, the vice-chancellor of Gujarat University, in an interview with PTI. Gupta clarified that these students had completed their academic programs but were staying in the hostel temporarily due to pending administrative matters.

“We have completed the required paperwork, and arrangements have been made for them to safely return to their respective countries,” Vice-Chancellor Gupta stated. “We have also informed the consulates of the respective countries, and they have advised these students to vacate the hostel.”
