Forum Demands Action Against Hindutva Leaders in Abdul Rahiman Murder Case in Bantwal

Mangaluru : In the wake of the brutal murder of Abdul Rahiman in Bantwal, the Muslim Samaja Bantwal has called for immediate action against several prominent Hindutva activists. At a press conference held on Thursday, KH Aboobakker, president of the forum, and general secretary Haneef Khan demanded that Bharat Kumdel, Sharan Pumpwell, Srikant Shetty, and Shivananda Mendon be named in the FIR, reported the Times of India.
The leaders alleged that these individuals had been inciting communal hatred through inflammatory speeches, particularly during events like ‘Bajpe Chalo’, following the murder of Suhas Shetty. They claimed that such provocations have directly contributed to violent attacks on Muslims, including Rahiman’s killing.
Calling the murder a premeditated act influenced by right-wing ideologues, the forum leaders insisted that the investigation be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) or a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to ensure impartiality and thoroughness.
They further urged that the accused be charged under stringent laws, including the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Karnataka Control of Organised Crimes Act (KCOCA), given the organised and ideological nature of the crime.
Describing Abdul Rahiman as a peace-loving and hardworking individual, Aboobakker said, “Rahiman had no criminal background. He drove a pick-up vehicle to earn a living and was known for his selfless help to others, irrespective of religion or caste. His murder has devastated his family—his wife, two young children, and aged parents.”
The forum has also demanded a compensation of ₹1 crore for Rahiman’s family and asked the government to cover the medical expenses of Kalandar Shafi, who sustained serious injuries in the same attack and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
The incident has triggered widespread concern in the region, with activists and community leaders calling for accountability, justice, and an end to hate-driven violence.
