New Delhi/Chennai: The killing of four Muslims in separate incidents across different states within one week has raised alarm among political leaders and civil society groups. M. H. Jawahirullah, MLA and president of the Manithaneya Makkal Katchi, urged immediate action from the Union government to address rising hate crimes.
Speaking from Chennai, Jawahirullah said the incidents reflect a pattern of targeted violence and pose a challenge to India’s democratic and secular framework.
The first case emerged from Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh. Thirteen year old Unais Khan died after being shot in the forehead. Reports state he had visited a friend’s house when the attack took place. The accused reportedly holds family links with the nephew of Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak. The killing triggered anger among local residents.
In Madhubani district of Bihar, 65 year old Roshan Khatun died after a violent assault. Reports state she approached a village headman to settle a dispute. A group allegedly tied her to a pole, beat her, and forced alcohol and cow urine into her mouth while she observed fasting.
Another incident occurred in Darbhanga district of Bihar. Sixty five year old Abdus Salam died after a group of youths attacked him with iron rods. Reports state the assault began after he objected to communal slurs.
In a separate case, Amir, a 28 year old truck driver from Balla, died after suspected cow vigilantes opened fire on his vehicle while he travelled toward Rajasthan.
Jawahirullah called for impartial investigations and strict punishment for those responsible. He urged authorities to act against groups spreading religious hatred and appealed for collective efforts to protect communal harmony.
