Four Soldiers Martyred in Fierce Gunfight with Terrorists in J&K’s Doda

16 Jul. 24: In a tragic incident, four Indian Army personnel, including a Captain, were martyred during a fierce gunfight with terrorists in the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources reported to the Economic Times on Tuesday.

The confrontation erupted on Monday evening in the Uradbagi forest area of Desa village. According to officials, five security personnel sustained critical injuries in the exchange of fire, four of whom later succumbed to their injuries.

The encounter began when troops from the Rashtriya Rifles and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a joint cordon and search operation in the Dhari Gote Urarbagi area of the Desa forest belt, approximately 55 kilometers from Doda town. The initial exchange of fire saw the terrorists attempting to escape. However, the troops, led by an officer, pursued them through challenging terrain and thick foliage, leading to another intense firefight around 9 PM.

The terror group ‘Kashmir Tigers’ claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that the clash occurred during a search operation for their “Mujahideen.”

This incident is part of a recent surge in terror activities in the Jammu region. On July 9, another gunfight broke out between security forces and terrorists in Doda. Additionally, on July 8, five Army jawans were martyred and as many injured when terrorists attacked a truck in the village of Badnote in the Lohai block of Kathua district.

Doda district has witnessed several terror-related incidents in recent weeks. On June 11-12, twin terror attacks rocked the district, resulting in injuries to six security personnel and a police officer. On June 26, three terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in a forest area of Doda.

The repeated terror attacks in the region underscore the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir.
