Fourteen Madrasa Students Narrowly Escape Electrocution in Telangana’s Sangareddy District

Hyderabad – A potentially tragic incident was averted on Friday, July 11, when fourteen students from a madrasa in Kavalampet village, located in Kandi mandal of Sangareddy district, narrowly escaped electrocution after a high-voltage power line collapsed inside the institution’s premises, reported the Siasat.
The mishap occurred while workers were shifting electric poles as part of ongoing road-widening works on National Highway 65, between Muthangi and Sangareddy town. A 33/11 KV live wire reportedly snapped and fell within the madrasa compound, adjacent to a mosque, leading to sudden sparks, fire bursts, and thick smoke. Panic gripped the children as chaos unfolded around them.
Thankfully, no lives were lost. The children were quickly shifted to the Sangareddy District Government Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed their condition to be stable.
The madrasa is operated under the banner of MS Creative School, and the incident has raised serious concerns about safety protocols during infrastructure works near educational institutions.
Local residents and activists have alleged that officials from the Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) were shifting the power lines under undue influence from private real-estate developers seeking to fast-track electricity access to their projects. These unofficial practices, they claim, not only endanger lives but also result in financial losses to the power corporation.
According to sources, an Assistant Divisional Engineer (ADE) and a Divisional Engineer (Operations) had been assigned to supervise the relocation works.
No official statement has yet been released by TGSPDCL regarding the incident.
